I was greatly disturbed that the Conservative government brought the crisis
about by so quickly abandoning its post-election commitment to be more
conciliatory and try to work with the opposition. Instead, it reverted to its
partisan, below-the-belt style of politics as shown in its stand pat economic
statement. The Conservatives, who should be doing everything possible to help
Canadians weather the economic storm, were more focused on trying to punish the
opposition parties, workers and women. Can they ever stop playing their
political games to serve their own selfish interests and instead devote their
energy to doing their job and being real public servants?
